I try to capture the contrast between illuminated subjects and their surroundings, whether they are from abstract concepts or figurative images. And it is this interpreting of light that takes me to experiment with texture and colour.
The concept of illumination drives how I select the subjects to paint. It may be a sun-kissed body at the beach as the sun sets, or an abstract landscape enveloped in mist. My recent work expresses a deep understanding of value and color balance, which I use to capture real and imagined images.
I like to work both with acrylic and oil mediums, depending on the subject. In order to achieve the illusion of light I like to use texture to layer the painting from dark to light. With oil I can also achieve the same effect using a dry brush technique.
As an artist I like to create images that recall beauty.
